Okay so I got a new gadget for my bike. A little computer that tells me how fast how far and how long I've gone... and averages and fun stuff like that. I installed it yesterday and took the bike for an 11-12mile spin to test it out... and it didn't work hardly at all. Needless to say that my $60 toy (bought with rebates from REI that we'd saved up) was a bit of a let down and it was screwy anyway to install. It would read my mph periodically but not constantly and i was majorly bummed. So we were set to take it back and get a different style and have THEM install it for us so we didn't have to mess with it. I mean it was screwy my max speed was 16.9mph which is fine I know I can go faster, but some how my average speed was like 23mph... don't think so. So... today I got home from work and Dave was not doing so hot with allergies (thanks wind) and so I headed out on my own for a quick 30minute trip (that's about 6 miles pending on wind...seriously) But first I did the good ole check tire pressure and other stuff to make sure i'm not going to have any accidents on the bike trail or heaven forbid when I'm riding in traffic to and from the bike trail (we live like .6miles from the bike trail) and I decided to double check the installation of the bike computer. Dave had mentioned something about signal strength (because it's wireless) and I decided to just look at the pictures because the written instructions left much to be desired... and then I noticed a little something... the part that goes on the handle bar is shown on the same side as the transmitter that goes down on the fork that tracks the magnet that goes on the spoke thus determining speed and distance... then I looked at mine... and um... well... I couldn't put it on the right because my headlight was there... so I put it on the left to be aesthetically balanced...so I had the brilliant idea (duh!) to swap the light and the receiver thingy on my handlebars... and after about five minutes of fighting with the stupid light and getting it right... I was ready to roll... and can I say i love the gizmo now. Worked perfectly. Yesterday my stats were a little goofed though I can say that I went 12 miles with a max speed of 16.5 miles in about an hour. Today I'm a little more exact. I went 5.94 miles with an average speed of 11.26mph (would have been faster but the wind was against me on the return trip and so being tired for going half that distance at 13mph in fifteen minutes slowed me down some. My high speed was 16.97 mph in 32 minutes. :) I'm improving. Usually when I ride the same distance with dave my average speed (per his bike computer cause we'd gadge off of my keeping up with him) was at most 10mph.. Well anyway i'm sweaty and stinky from the ride. It's about 70 outside and I need to get showered and dinner and stuff... that's all for now.
